Computers and mobile devices are all prone, without exception, to vulnerabilities that can be exploited in the form of viruses and malware. Depending on the kind of vulnerabilities, viruses and malware can take over devices, access date, listen in on all communication, and copy files, including session cookies.
Since malware and viruses can overtake files in computers and devices when a vulnerability allows for this, it is possible for them to collect the information required to access your online accounts, and for this reason having two factor authentication is definitely important. But this also means that updating your devices as regularly as possible will, also, act as a form of security, as well.
If you do not have two factor authentication enabled, and a virus or malware has your username and password to an account or many accounts, it can send this to a command-and-control server or run locally from your own device and start taking over your accounts doing all kinds of things including posting unwanted posts, accessing data you do not want to share and accessing financial institutions.
